Medical Ethics

Been reading a bit about medical ethics

- 13 year old British girl wins the right to refuse heart transplant

I personally think that the medical authorities have no right to force someone to a medical treatment, especially as in the case for this 13 year old girl. She's been living with the disease all her life so I'm pretty certain she knows more about her condition than the doctors (yes doctors know more about diagnostic and those side of things, but when it comes to psychosocial elements, I'm sure patients know more!)

As someone who's been living in trauma through all her life by all the chemo and medication, as someone who is diagnosed leukemia and with a heart defect, I think all medical procedures should have informed consent from the patient him/herself. Indeed although the heart transplant can be life-saving and -prolonging, but for the child, it's a difficult move for her to make. Furthermore, it's so high risk, so the child should have the power of judgment whether to receive/decline the treatment.

What's your view on it? Please post your viewpoints. Thanks!

I'll be posting more news/articles in this 'medical ethics' respect nowadays. I look forward to your enthusiastic responses!

So much homework.. so little time..

Sorry for not posting for a really long time because of academic issues - been busy with volunteering services, HOMEWORK and procrastinating by watching Happy Tree Friends videos uploaded on Youtube.

I've got Chemistry test next Wednesday, and currently researching on what topics based on Biology/health for my Extended Essay. EE, the acronym for extended essay, is a requirement of the IB Diploma program and it aims to provide students the opportunity to independently conduct research on the topics preferred.

Any constructive ideas on what mines should be based on? I got one but not planning to give it out because it's confidential stuff :P

More info on EE provided here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Essay

Until next time, see you again soon! Thanks for reading!
